106 & Park will soon be a thing of the
past. The BET daily countdown show has been a go-to spot for just about
every big name in Hip-Hop and R&B, but has decided to throw in the
towel after 12 years on the air. With the departure of Rocsi Diaz, and Terrece "J" Jenkins, the show was rumored to search for a new pair of hosts.
The show announced the news Wednesday (Sept. 19), via Twitter. "We sadly announce that on September 28th, 2012, we will air our last episode." The post was later deleted.
Jenkins relocated from New York to Los Angeles in search of movie
stardom, a feat which he achieved thanks to his co-starring role in Think Like A Man, and recently landed a co-hosting gig on E! News,
while Diaz is also trying to get her acting career moving. Both hosts
were chosen by way of a national search for replacements for Marie
"Free" Wright and A.J. Calloway, the duo that kicked off the series in September of 2000. Over the last decade the likes of Kanye West, Rihanna, Drake, 2 Chainz, Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and more have all graced the colorful coaches to talk up their new projects.
The show was also the last live public appearance made by singer Aaliyah days before she tragically died in a plane crash.
UPDATE: The official 106 & Park Twitter account tweeted the following message: "Fam,
Don't believe the hype! We aren't going anywhere! We ARE planning a
farewell to @TerrenceJ & @rocsidiaz tho. #New106 hosts Oct. 1
6P/5c."
